My old Maytag washer is leaking from the top when the cold water is filling the tub. So if you run a cold/cold load it leaks both at the initial fill and during the rinse. If you run a warm/cold or hot/cold load it only leaks during the rinse when the cold is running. I opened the machine and determined where it is leaking but I'm not sure if I should replace the part that is leaking or if it's being caused by the water valve. I have attached a picture of where it is leaking. The plastic rectangle fills to overflowing almost as if the water is coming through the hoses too quickly. Is is a function of this part and if so, what is this part called, or is it the fill valve (the part connected to the hoses as they enter the machine)?

Please post a model number so we can see exactly what you have and maybe identify the part to replace.

Thanks

Thanks - the model number is hard to read after all these years but I'm pretty sure it says 'LAT8820AAW'. It's a Maytag.

Ok good. That is a Maytag model number and you can use it to order parts.

Since it is the only the cold water that leaks I am thinking that the inlet valve assembly is faulty and allowing too much pressure to buildup when water is coming in. The valve assembly has mechanism to control this. So I would start by replacing the valve assembly and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Great - I found this part. Is this the complete valve assembly or do I need something else as well?

That should do it, but I suggest you call in your order to APP and give them both the model number and the serial number and ask them if you need more item. I would suggest you replace the hoses leading from the valve assembly to the basket as long as you are doing things just to avoid future problems, but your decision.

If the part does not fix the problem and you do order from APP you can return it.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

I ordered and received both the inlet valve and the hose. They replacement went great except for the fact that it still leaks in the exact same place and situation. No leaking when it's running hot water but cold (either fill or rinse) leaks out of the basket in the picture. Anything else I can try?

Well that's weird, and I am at kind of a loss here. Try turning on the cold water tap only about half way and see if that makes a difference.
