open door, dryer stops, close door, dryer continues to heat even though dryer is not running.

Check for a grounded heat element. Unplug dryer, set timer to heat cycle, check resistance between ground and the flat blades of the power plug. Should read open (infinity). If you get a resistance reading, the element is grounded.

Well I removed the Heat Element and sure enough, one of the stand-off blocks had twisted, allowing the element to touch the housing. I rotated it back and pushed the wire back in the slots. It now tests fine. Thanks so verry much! So now my question is: What are my chances of this being a long term fix? or Should I order a replacement heater element along with a thermal fuse now?

If your dryer stays hot that is if it has grounded heating element, then you must get an advice from some heating repair service NJ.
