Ultra Fabric Care II - Heavy Duty 80 Series stopped agitating mid wash cycle. there was a burning smell. It still spins and drains, but completely dead in the washing cycle. Just wondering where to start as the most likely culprit.

Remove the cabinet, unclip the drain pump from the back of the motor and pull the pump off (leave hoses connected). Rotate the motor shaft by hand (pliers may help) CCW while someone observes the lower agitator. The shaft should rotate easily and should cause the lower agitator to go back and forth. If that is ok, then the problem is electrical. Does this problem occur in all speed settings? With control panel rotated back, take a photo of the wiring diagram and post it here. Include the timer chart on the left. Make sure it's clear enough to read. It is no longer available online.

Eric, Well, get this. I didn't have time to pull it apart, but I thought I would check to see if it was only the high speed setting it was set to last night. I filled and checked the ex gentle, gentle and regular and they all worked. I then went to high speed and it is working too.
Last night, the high speed didn't work, even after I emptied the washer of the clothes. I didn't check anything else except the spin and draining, which were fine.
Perhaps it was overloaded and stopped? I was worried because of the burning smell (belt slipping?) It was late, I didn't check much else.
thanks, Tom

There is no belt on this washer. Could be faulty contacts in the speed switch. Next time it does it, mess with the speed switch again. If that clears it up, might want to replace that switch.
