My washing machine fills with water after the final spin. It is the same if i use extra rinse or not.
I have a Maytag LAT6914AAE.

I was told to check the water pump, hose and valve.
When i unplug the machine or open the lid i stops filling, there is no drips at all, so i don't think it is a leaky valve.
When i put it on spin, it drains the water, and it goes up the hose and out the drain, so i don't think it is the water pump, hose or drain.
I'm thinking it might be the timer, but i would like some confirmation. The timer is rather expensive (~$150.00) and i not sure i want to spend that kind of money on a ~20 yr old machine.
Is there something else i should check. I opened the panel and looked for burned wires, but i only did a cursory inspection of the area, i did not follow any of the wires.

I agree that it is not a good idea to spend money on the timer for a machine this old. You could try replacing the water level switch and making sure the tube to it from the tub is clear, and if you buy the part from this site and it does not fix the problem you can return it. Not a sure bet but worth a try.

If i empty the tub and select a different water level, it stops filling at the correct level.

At PRESOAK the tub fills with water, not agitation. SOAK light stays off.
At 12 8 5 nothing happens, no agitation, SOAK light stays off.
About half-way between 5 and the first rinse, the SOAK light comes on.
None of the rinse, spin, off, spin do anything, until about a quarter inch before OFF, than it starts spinning and draining the water. Extra rinse is turned off.
When it gets almost (1/8") to OFF, it still spins, but the water starts filling up, then the tub stops spinning and the water continues to fill the tub up to the water level selected.

Sounds like a faulty timer to me. Soak light should come on and stay on only during the pre soak portion of the dial. If the washer is otherwise in good shape, it is worth repairing.
