Hi, I have a modern maid oven which was serviced by a PG&E rep because I smelled gas in my house. As suspected it was my oven which has been working intermittantly for a while now. He said the Oven Control Valve is bypassing and leaking gas. I have a sears repair guy coming out but since it is an old stove and Modern Maid is no longer, I was wondering if you had the part I would need to order so I could have it readily available for the sears guy so he could fix it on the spot? Christmas is coming and I am the one cooking dinner and I need my oven. Any advice?

when did you smell gas ? was it when you turned the oven on to bake and it would take a long time to ignite and then you smelled gas, or was it just occasionally without the oven / range burners being used that when you walked by it , you would smell gas ?

Occasionally without the oven/range burned being used at all.

i was never a fan of modern maid.. it was an Amana product and Maytag purchased the Amana line and now Whirlpool purchase the Maytag line, i think it would probably be better to invest in a new oven and save yourself the time and money involved in a service call when they probably wont be able to get you the part anyway... but that is just my opinion ( especially if the oven is > 10 years )
