The Maytag Model #LA512 washer is about 25 years old. For reference, this video shows the lip seal and puller at about the 2:20 mark.

So I get everything apart but the transmission lip seal has all the rubber worn off of it, leaving just a copper sleeve. There's no flange like is depicted in the video where he works a screw driver under to remove the seal. Subsequently, I ordered the $90 Lip Seal Puller but it just bumps up square to the remaining copper sleeve and can't undercut the sleeve to pull it out. So, how do I get this worn out leaky lip seal out without damaging the shaft?
Obliged.

Anyone? Trying not to have to purchase a new transmission just because the seal seems to be difficult to remove. What about grinding a slight edge into the lip of the puller to get it into the annular space betwixt the shaft and lip seal? Thoughts? Experiences?

Anyone?

Is the original lip seal a solid bronze bushing without a rubber coating like the one I've purchased?

Ok. So I have this problem solved and thought I'd share the info for those so inclined....

Seems the older counter-weighted trannies use a bronze bushing for a lip seal. The transmission needs to be disassembled to press the bushing *into* the transmission case to R&R same. The alternate plug-and-play option is to replace the whole thing with a #W10172457 orbital transmission (about $400) but the original is reportedly more robust. I'm going to replace the old bushing (about $4) along with the #62095720 stem & seal and the #62040130 bearing to keep the old gal spinning....
