Short Story:
Found shavings in my GE top loader washer. Shavings are from balance ring and tub cover. Replacing them only created more shavings. Help please.
Long story:
I got this washer about a year ago and it always shook like crazy. I figured it was because its an older machine and not brand new one. I found some plastic shavings on the bottom and didnt think much of it since I mess with plastics a lot and produce a lot of shavings, wouldn't be all that weird if i actually got some of those shavings in my washer. About a month ago the washer started to shake the whole house and bang on the walls so i took it apart to investigate and figured that the shavings i got were not from my 3d printer but from the balance ring and tub cover. They were almost gone. I got the new parts in the mail yesterday and happily started doing my laundry at home again. I did a few loads today and I noticed the plastic shavings came back. Knowing that last time I was wrong about the shavings I decided to check my brand new balance ring and tub cover and they are getting worn out again :( What could be causing this? All I found online about shavings are about front loaders and not top loaders. Any help would be appreciated, even if you are not sure I'll check it out at this point.

Parts inspected:
balance ring (new)
tub cover (new)
counter weight (could not move it)
dampening straps (look healthy and malleable with no cracks)
suspension rods (pushed up and they sprang down with a god "swosh" sound of the pressure adjusting)
belt (runs free and not a lot of effort)
motor (will not move sideways, rotates easily when i move the belt back and forth)

Remove the front panel and check the balance weight on the back of the lower tub/motor platform. The bolt that secures it is known to come loose. Also, with front panel removed, remove the two screws that hold the top panel on. Work the lid switch out of its mounting hole and push it back through the hole. Raise the top panel and check the four black rubber tub dampening straps for breakage.

First of all thanks for the reply, unfortunately I checked the weight, the black straps and the suspension rods but as far as I can tell they look good and the weight is tight (could not move it at all using all my strength to try to dislodge it)

May be that the inner tub hub is shot causing inner tub to be out of position and rubbing on outer tub cover as well as causing out of balance problem. You can remove the magnet from the lid and place it over the lid switch to run it with the lid open in spin to see if this is whats going on. If this is the case, you will need to remove the agitator, agitator coupler, tub nut and inner tub to inspect further.

JACKPOT!!!
The hub nut was totally loose as in not even touching the tub at all and able to be rotated with my fingers. I tried tightening but noticed the tub was still loose. Removed the inner tub and my Washer Split Ring Tub Bearing was almost gone. Such a cheap part and so important, was messing up my whole washer :( Ordered one and going to update once i change it.
I got it just in time too. the inner tub was hitting against the outer tub on the bottom and the plastic is super soft... a couple more loads and I might have water all over the place :S Going to save money to get an outer tub anyways but happy that i have time to save some money and still wash my clothes :D

I would advise getting the spanner wrench to tighten the nut when you put it back together. It needs to be pretty tight and the wrench makes it much easier. Don't forget that it's left-hand thread. Let us know how it turns out. Eric Pro TJ90TB123A Spanner Wrench - AppliancePartsPros.com

It worked beautifully for most of the load. It was squeaking a bit but i thought it was because it was a new part... about 2/3 of the way thru the spin cycle it started banging aroudn the walls again and the inner was super loose. I got the stuff out of the machine and noticed the hub nut was loose again even tho i used a hammer (hitting the wrench) to tighten it... I was thinking about using locktite on the nut. Any advice? I'll refrain from using locktite until i hear back here. I don't know how else to make sure it stays tight :(

lock tight but didnt help much. ended up cutting my losses and getting a cheap washer from home depot :(
