I recently purchased a used washer that has a leak. I discovered the leak was a crack in the plastic tub. I'm attempting to repair the crack with some epoxy.

I wondered why the tub would crack and discovered two nails with covers that seem to hold the Skate Plate in place. There is a spot for a third nail and cover and I thought maybe this missing piece would cause the metal Base to torque the tub and crack it. Or, maybe they are shipping pins and should be removed.

Anybody know what these nails and covers are? They are not on the parts diagram for this model.

I've attached photos of the part and the repaired tub. Thanks for any insights!

They are shipping pins and should be removed. Normally, the pins keep the suspension and skate plate from shifting around during shipping. The pins normally have a clip in the hole in their end and those clips have a string tied to them that exit the washer. When first installed, the installer pulls the string which pulls the clips and the pins fall into the containers.

Thanks for the quick answer!

Is there a danger with leaving the shipping pins in?

Also... what are the chances of my tub repair lasting? I used some Q-bond, then some marine epoxy over that! Was it a mistake to turn the washer completely upside down?

Yes, the shipping pins must be removed in order for the suspension to operate properly. There is a vent hole on the top of the transmission where oil can leak out with machine upside down. Has this machine never been used or did somebody just stick the shipping pins back in and reinstall the clips?

The washer has been used, but I don't think the shipping pins were ever removed. That could explain why the tub was cracked. It looks like my repair has stopped the leak from the tub. I guess I'll remove the two pins.

Should I add oil to the transmission?

Thanks for your help.
