Washer continues to make the normal off and on load sense buzzing noise and will not exit sense cycle. Then after 2 or 3 minutes, the sensing alarm continues uninterrupted and cannot be shut off unless the unit is unplugged.

Any ideas on where to start my diagnosis?

See if there aren't some tech notes under the top which will show you how to do some diagnostic testing. Focus on the control unit. If you want to you could replace it on spec and if you buy from this site you can return it if it doesn't fix the problem.

hi sid

took the cover off but no diagnostic instructions anywhere. Where can I find them?
UPDATE>>>>>Found a service manual on line.

Diagnostic codes are F5 E1. Explanation from manual follows.
Fault is displayed if Lid Switch has not been detected after multiple wash cycles.
--user presses START with lid open
--the main control cannot detect the lid switch opening and closing properly
--See TEST #8. Lid Lock Test

I think I agree it is main control board. lid locks correctly.
AND the tests in the service manual only go to 7. LMAO. Test #8 is nowhere to be found.

Now I have to have an internal debate as to whether to spend a boatload of cash on a control board that will just break in another few years....

Well darn, talk to Sears Customer Service and see if they cannot get something to you.

Got it. These are good machines when they work but when they don't they are difficult to diagnose and expensive to repair. I would spend the money on a basic top loader, especially one without any electronics.

If you got the one with electronics then buying the service contract is a good idea.

Good luck, thanks for updating us.
