Hi,

My refrigerator starting making a lot of noise while working, noise was coming from the inside the freezer, sounded like fan was hitting something. A week after I decided for myself to see what was going on. I opened the freezer, took the door out, and got to the evaporator and the fan assembly just to find mad ice built up on the evaporator going up to the evaporator fan. The fan was hitting the ice builtup and as such making noise.

I need to say that the fridge was working fine during this time. I knew something was wrong with the fridge, like a thermostat or something along those lines, however for the moment figured would get rid of the ice and do my research. Yes the refrigerator was unplugged from the power line as I forgot to mention. After getting rid of the ice using a hair dryer, I put everything back together, took most of what was in the refrigerator and put on my spare one in the garage. To my surprise since I got rid of the ice, the freezer is not reaching the temperature it is supposed. As a matter of fact I have not put back any of the meats due to this.

I am not sure what the issue is, evaporator fan could be. I am attaching a picture showing the ice built up. Any assistance with this matter would be highly appreciated. I am trying to figure out what to do.

Thank you,
Julian

We have encountered the same problem as juliankyre. The ice built up on the evaporator, defrosting it, only to have the ice build up again. The technicians have not figured it out--now they are ordering a new control board. How was your problem resolved? Was it a control board issue? Or something else?
Also, the ice maker no longer produces ice.
Thanks for any advice!

Hi there,

In my case it was the fridge condenser. The tech knew right away and basically told us has to order the part and come back. It took a couple of hours of work after he returned as the compressor needs to be emptied and refilled to change the condensor. And yes the ice maker would not work.

Hope this helps. I had extended warranty so didn't have to pay anything. That said I think the tech had said this part had a 10 year warranty.
