hello,
my sisters frig is not getting real cold in freezer and food area.
its liveable but not what I think it should.
I turned it up to 6 .
I checked the thermostat on ohms and seems to be fine.
same with defrost timer.
I don't see frost build up on evap coils and evap fan is working.
also condenser fan is turning on but I did find the coils in front of condenser fan to be dirty.
I cleaned the coils on bottom of frig 2 weeks ago.

it just does not seem to be as cold in freezer and the food section as I think it should at no.6 .
nothing is thawing out in freezer or food but its just not COLD its cool......
I would say frig is around 15 years old.

thanks jim

Here are your parts
Parts for GE TBX14SAZBRWH Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.com

Check the compartment temperatures.
The freezer should be between 0 and 5 degrees F.
The fresh food side around 38 to 40 degrees F.

Is the compressor running all the time except when the unit goes through a defrost cycle?

yes I believe the compressor is running when not in defrost mode.
I turned it up to no.6 and frig does seem colder but not COLD.
frig is 17 years old.
just not real cold air coming out of freezer evaporator, its cool air.
but I believe when I cleaned the condenser coil in back with my leaf blower, don't laugh it got all dust off that coil I could not reach ,it seems to be slightly cooler but I did turn temp up to no. 6.

I will put temp gauge in freezer today and reply tonight.
could it be the frig is old now .some say 15/20 years is life?
thanks

temp in freezer is zero.
it must have been the dirty coil in front of the condenser fan where you cant clean the coil with a brush. i used leaf blower to clean it.
will check frig on thursday to see if food area is 38 degrees.

took a few days to get cold i guess from cleaning.
so far i guess this 17 yr old frig is still good.
thanks for tip on putting a temp gauge in freezer.
