have a GE top loading washer, model number WBSE3120B2WW. It runs through the wash cycle, agitates fine, drains all the water, but won't spin unless I manually switch it to the "Spin Only" cycle. We noticed that it seemed stuck in the drain cycle after hearing it drone on for some time with out finishing the wash. We ran it through several times to completion, by just switching the spin cycle on manually. Today we came home from church to find the washing machine stuck in the drain cycle. Since we started the load before leaving, the machine had been "draining" for more than two hours. The last couple of times that I have washed anything I have had to hit, reset, pause, and change the cycle multiple times before I could get it to actually do the final spin. Any idea what the problem might be?

Take off the front panel and check the motor for a flashing light. That is the way this model generates error codes. Here is a link to how to interpret them.

First try reset, sometimes that is all that is needed. Also, as you probably realize by now it is not a good idea to leave the house with any appliance operating, particularly if water or heat is involved. A broken hose can literally destroy a house.

It appears that my washer is a little older than I thought. I took the front cover off, looked at the motor and couldn't find any error light. I poked around the web site you directed me to, appliance-repair-it.com, and found that my washer is the older T Model Type. I didn't see much helpful info from there on diagnosing the specific problem. Any push in the right direction for me?
