We have Maytag dryer model #MEDC400VW0 it keeps on running,even on air fluff it is hot.Timer nob keeps on going passing set cycles.laundry gets overly dry and hot, some times it stops runnig but element still hot.What could be the problem?

What could be the problem?[/COLOR]
You may have two problems here.

When the motor is off the heater should be off as the centrifugal switch on the motor should be open. You may have a grounded element.
Unplug the unit and both wires from the heater.
Measure the heater. It should be around 8 to 12 ohms.
Then measure from each side of the heater to it's case (ground). Both should be infinite ohms.
If not the element is grounded and should be replaced.

The above does not explain why the timer keeps advancing all the time so it may also be shot.

I am assuming that the timer knob keeps rotating even through and past the off position.

G E Electric dryer model number: DBSR453EB2WW
My dryer start switch failed about a year ago. Just recently, the dryer doesn't turn off when selecting "more dry" or "less dry" settings. It does shut off when choosing any of the other settings based on time (i.e. 10 min, 40 min, 80 min etc.) I suspected the timer failed so i ordered one and installed it last night but it is not the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Adding a different model to another's post will just confuse things.

I do not have access to GE tech info so may not be very helpful.
Could be you have a grounded element.
