Our whirlpool dryer will run through all cycles but doesn't get hot enough to dry clothes in one cycle.
Heating element, thermal fuse and thermostats have continuity. I can see the element turns off/on during the cycles. The vent isn't clogged and I cleaned out all the lint without any change.
Any ideas?

Did you check to see if the heater element was grounded? if not Unplug the unit. Disconnect the two wires from the element Measure the element should be about 8 to 12 ohms. Now measure from each side of the element to it's case (ground). Both should be infinite ohms. If not the element is grounded and should be replaced. |

10 ohms and meter doesn't show any ohms from any of the connections to the case. The high temp thermo on the heating element has continuity but shuts off at temp so it should be working. The cycling thermo has continuity at room temp and loses it at temp.
I ran the dryer with the back off and the element gets hot and the thermostats are shutting on/off. I ran it without clothes for 10 min and it got hot inside the drum.
Is there a way to test the moisture sensor? It seems to run hotter without clothes than with damp clothes. I checked the drying board and don't see anything burnt on the board. I have tried to see if there is continuity between the sensor and the board but can't find any. Tried with and without power from both connectors to a ground. The wire to the board isn't cut.
I did clean off the sensors with alcohol so maybe that will help some.

I do not think this is your problem at least if heat output ios the problem.
The moisture sensor does not effect the heat output.
It controls the timer motor.
When the clothes are wet there is moisture between the sensor strips and it does not advance the motor.
When the clothes are dry there is no moisture so the board senses this and advances the timer to off.
You could hold a wet/damp rag across the sensor strips. The time should not advance. Then dry the strips and see if it will advance.
Be careful so you do not get caught by the turning drum.
You could check the exhaust temperature it should be around 155 and then drop to about 130. |
