I have an old GE Dryer that won't run on. When you try to turn it on it makes a hum noise but the drum won't spin. Only way to get it to turn on is by pushing the button on the door in, spinning the drum by hand, then quickly flipping the switch and closing the door. I can't keep doing this so does any one what's wrong with it? Is my motor bad? And can anyone tell me where I can find the model number for my dryer? Thanks!

Here is where to look for the model number.

Try turning the drum in the correct direction manually. It should turn fairly easily. If not you may have a problem with too much drag on the drum.

If it turns OK then odds are that the motor needs replacing.
