I have a GE washer model# WDSR2080D8WW that will agitate but not spin or rinse. The timer cycles completely through but the washer fails to move once it reaches the spin/rinse cycle. I can hear the motor being energized.

This washer has a magnetic style lid switch. I removed the magnetic side from the lid and affixed it to the tub contact in order to operate it while the lid was open.

I tried to assist the tub in spinning but it won't budge. I cannot see any obstructions around the tub. I haven't looked under the washer yet as it is currently full of water since it won't drain.

Please help.

The main motor will not work until most of the water is pumped out. The noise you are hearing is probably the pump trying to turn. The most likely cause is that the pump is stopped up. The first things you will have to do is remove the water then take to hose off going to the pump from the tub. Then look inside the pump to see if anything is clogging it. Clothes Washer Repair Guide

Applianceman you nailed it! I opened up the pump inlet to find remnants of a throw pillow my wife washed yesterday clogging the pump. I removed the offending material and the pump operates perfectly now. Thanks for your tips!

Upon further inspection I spotted more material floating around the tub during the agitate cycle. On this model it appears as though the top of the tub can be pried off after removing the tub damper straps. I hope then I can slide a wire hanger and grasp the remaining material floating around tub.

Your thoughts?

The washer disassembly guide appears pretty much inline with what I plan to do with the exception I'll be attempting to remove the tabbed tub cover w/o removing the tub. Thanks again!
