I have a GE upright freezer which recently started shutting off both what I assume is the evaporator fan as well as the interior light any time door is opened. The control panel immediately alerts "door open" and "hi temp" when door is opened, light flickers on and off, and fan shuts off. Closing door or depressing door switch restores everything to normal function.
The freezer is freezing fine, but there was ice build up at bottom and evaporator drain outlet was clogged with ice.
Thought freezer temp being set too low might have been the problem, but now (after ice removal and running it at temp setting "5" instead of "7"), it's doing the same thing. I am wondering how to tell is this is a defrost thermostat or a faulty door switch or control set because those would be easy to replace.
My question is, what is the relationship between the door, the light, the control set, and the fan...they all seem connected to one another in some way.
