I have a top load whirlpool wtw4800xq2 that died mid-spin cycle and now has the lid locked with no lights at all. It shows zero signs of life, even after removing the power for as long as overnight hoping for a reset. I have checked all connections to the control board etc to no avail. Any thoughts appreciated.

Did you verify that you have power at the receptacle? Breaker tripped?

There is an LED indicator in the small square hole on the back of the main control above where the power cord plugs into the control. If it is on, then there is power to the unit and at least part of the power supply is working. If the LED is off, then you need to check for power at the power cord where it plugs into the control. If you have 120vac at power cord connection, unplug washer, disconnect connector J2 from control board and plug washer back in. If LED is now on, you have a bad shift actuator. If it still did not come on, unplug washer, disconnect connector J9 and plug washer back in. If LED still does not come on, looks like a faulty main control board.

Odd, I fiddled with it some today, doing the steps above and after trying those, still NO lights. I was about to give up and order the board when I gave it the old WHACK of frustration and bing... lights popped on. There must be a solder joint weak or something in the control board but for the moment, it is working. Looks like a board in my future but I'll try to ensure good contact on all the plugs first. Frustrating problem!
