My Frigidaire Upright Commercial freezer has been inconsistent. I would have two shelves that build up ice and the rest of the freezer would barely keep things cool. It is a manual defrost, so we unplugged it to clear the frost.

This is a completely sealed unit, no coils on the back with no ability to access. I tested the thermostat, which was ok.

Looking at the parts and other posts, I just replaced the compressor run capacitor and had it run overnight. The freezer hums, the compressor is very warm to the touch and when I opened the door, the inside is barely cool, but now there is a small build up of ice on the top shelf (probably a 2 inch thick block about a foot long. Again the rest of the freezer is warm.

Any ideas?

Make sure the freezer is level, and canted slightly to the rear so the door closes by itself and tightly. These upright freezers need to be level for the door to seal properly. Mine has been problematic also, not sure if it is just this issue but am watching.

Thanks for the reply. It is level and the door seals tight. Has been in the same place for years.

Here are your parts
Parts for Frigidaire FFU21C3AW1 Freezer - AppliancePartsPros.com

If the parts I show above are correct then the shelves are the evaporator coils.

If the compressor is running and by the sound of it, it is.
You can hear it and also should also be able to feel it vibrating.

I am assuming that the compressor runs all the time re: it is trying to reach the set point temperature.

I would say that you have a sealed system problem re: low freon etc.
This will be an expensive repair as you need a pro and often it makes more sense to put the dollars towards a new unit.

Thank you for the guidance...unfortunately, I think you are correct. I will now unplug the old freezer, remove, then plug in a new one. That should take care of my problem :)

There are a number of factors to consider before determining what the issue is, including the brand and the configuration of the refrigerator and freezer. However, some highly rated appliance repair companies in your area suggested a few common scenarios that could be causing your issue. Another possible problem is a bad evaporator fan motor, which circulates the air from the freezer to the refrigerator. There are many problem too. I will suggest you to buy another one.
