Please can anyone tell me where the defrost timer, part # 4357124 for model EV200NXKQ00, is located? The liner parts diagram shows it floating around near the temperature control. All the threads I've seen here and all the YouTube videos are for refrigerators or other freezer makes & models.
Is there a way to troubleshoot a one time total defrosting enough to thaw everything in the freezer & then a refreeze to normal operation?

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool EV200NXKQ00 Freezer - AppliancePartsPros.comClick on the picture and take a look at the My Repair and Q&Q sections. Part number: AP4539458
The usual locations for defrost timers are in the control box, behind the kick plate or at the back of the unit. The last two may be hard to find you may only be able to see a hole that allows you to manually rotate the timer cam. Below is my standard blurb on defrost problems. First remove the evaporator cover in the freezer so you can see the coils. If they are heavily iced/frosted over then it is a defrost problem. Do not let them de-ice. If yes. Manually force a defrost cycle by turning the defrost timer cam till the fans and compressor turn off. There is usually a hole in the cover to let you do this without taking anything apart. Now check the defrost heater to see if it is on. Be careful you do not want to burn your fingers. If the heater is on then the timer needs replacing, re: it is probably stalling during it's rotation so is never getting into a defrost cycle. If not on. Unplug the unit. Remove the wire for one side of the heating element from the wiring and measure it for continuity, usually around 20 ohms or so. If the heater is OK Remove one wire to the defrost thermostat and measure it, should be 0 ohms when frozen. Note that it opens just above freezing so must be frozen to check it. Also inspect it, if it is bulged at all replace it even if it measures OK. If both the above are OK then odds are the defrost timer contacts are toast. Best way to test this is a live test to see if you have 120 volts across the heater/defrost thermostat combo. |

Thanks denman. I came by the freezer & saw water on the floor. Upon opening the door, I saw everything in the freezer had thawed. Later, after removing the contents, without doing anything else, it started getting cold again and soon it reached the desired temperature & has continued that way for over 24 hours. I just figured it would be caused by the defrost timer. I didn't see it behind the kick plate when I was emptying the drain pan, I don't see a control box & I have yet to inspect the back. Thanks for that replacement part number.

Yes it could be that the unit got stuck in a defrost cycle. Most timers give a 30 minute defrost cycle.
Might also be that the control thermostat stuck open.
If you knocked the control or moved it's setting and the unit started up then it would be the most likely culprit.
I am not sure why the drip tray overflowed, could be that frost on the food added to the amount of water. |
