GE Profile #PDW9980N00SS
On the inside panel of the door on the lower right side is a round plastic piece about the size of a quarter. I never knew what the purpose was of this but it has suddenly disintergrated and partially fallen into the hole. I cant find a part on the schematic. It seems water would seep into the door. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am not sure but I think this is the liquid detergent port. Clicking on a parts description or picture will open a new page with more info about that part. |

I opened the inner panel and the piece is part of the dispenser pump. Seems I have to buy the whole pump to fix it!

I just posted a new topic with more info and questions. This is what I wrote- PDW9980N00SS I never use the smart dispense feature. Is it required to run a normal load? The gasket on the dispenser pump (part #866) has deteriorated and fallen into the inside panel. I have unscrewed the panel to see what is going on inside there. Seems I have to buy the whole pump in order to fix it as I can not see a part number for just the gasket . Can that hole be plugged up and the smart dispense be disconnected from the wire harness? Yes you should be able to do this.
I would empty the liquid reservoir.
It would not be a bad idea to also put something into it's opening just to be sure someone does not tru to fill it in the future.

This is a tad more difficult.
I know that there are chrome snap in plugs that should be available at home depot etc.
Thay also come in plastic but I do not thing they will work because of the heat when in a dry cycle.
They have little teeth on the back to hold them in the hole so you have to get one that is the right size for the hole.
It would probably be a good idea to bend a couple of the teeth back once it is installed to be sure that it cannot come out.
I would use some high temperature RTV Sealant around it's lip to form a seal.
Also not a bad idea to use it on the back side.
I am not sure how well this type of plug will hold up to the caustic dishwasher soap.
Below is a link to pictures of the type of plug I am referring to.
Another way would be to use two stainless plates with a hole and bolt in the center.
Then make a sandwich on both sides of the cover with them and RTV. |
