My freezer was running a bit warm. GE tech took it apart, said selaed evaporator was bad. Gave it a shot of freon and said it may help for a while. Plugged it back in and compressor was very loud, said it would go away. Fridge nor freezer are cooling at all now. called him back, said that compressor has failed. What would cause sealed unit to leak/fail, it is not exposed. Thanks.

The compressor sucked in non-compressables and got damaged trying to compress these. He basically gave you false info, the fridg is terminal, too costly to fix.

Thanks for the info. So he damaged the refridgerator, it was working when he came in to diagose it, and it was terminal when he left. GE has agreed to pay a third party to repair it, which is scheduled for next week.

Don't settle for anything less than a new compressor, the old one will run inefficient and probably fail later.
