Whirlpool Side/Side Model ED25PQXFW00 Serial 565044770. Several months ago water dispenser had short delay (1-2 secs) Now intermittently will not dispense water, sometimes will dispense after 10-30 secs. When lever pushed, I hear hum but get no water. Other times, no hum, no water. Valve? Door switch? Please confirm there is NO pump/motor but uses line water press for dispensing. What is hum? Suggestions to T/shoot and fix?
Thanks,
Mike P.

The hum would be the solenoid at the water inlet valve opening or trying to open. Disconnect the water line on the left which goes to the dispenser and try the dispenser. Water should come out. If it doesn't, make sure the water line coming into the valve is not stopped up. There is a mesh screen which could be stopped up.
If that's not the problem your water line could be frozen in the door. You can disconnect the line under the unit before it goes into the door at the bottom hinge. Push the dispenser button and see if it comes out there. If it does try a hair dryer blowing where the water line is at the dispenser for a few minutes or leave the door open till it thaws.

I discount the possibility of the line being frozen for two reasons:
1) If I get water, and subsequently check flow a few more times, the time between lever actuation and water flow is almost directly proportional to the time between actuation. The longer between actuations, the longer it takes to get flow.
2) This morning my wife stood there with the lever pressed for about two minutes.....no water. I tried.....water. Three minutes later she tried again....I tried again.....no water. But I could hear the hum.
My problem is intermittent which always makes troubleshooting so much more......... ummmm.....fun.
Thanks,
Mike P.

My water problem above mentioned cured itself for a month or so and is now back. I have done nothing.......no thermostat change. no playing with the lines or valves. But........I have noticed that the ice maker will now form icicles falling from the rear of the tray. It is my suspicion that the valves are sticking. The weater dispenser valve closed, and the ice filler valve partiolly open allowing a slow lewak causing the icicle formation. And, again, the water issue is intermitant.

After posting 8/14 I checked the water dispenser switch with a multimeter at the plug which connects to the water valve. The switch checked good and I could hear nothing when the plug was connected to the valve solenoid and the door switch was activated. I decided the solenoid was bad, and the icicles which were forming on the ice maker were being caused by the ice tray fill valve not completely closing. I decided to order a new valve assy (which I ordered AFTER 4pm eastern time Friday 8/14 and received Monday 8/17......THAT'S SERVICE!!!). It took about 20 minutes to swap out the valve and ops check it. Water works fine and no more icicles.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I really appreciate this forum and the service at APP.com!
