Looking for some help. I have a Kenmore 90 series washer and dryer set that we have had for 20+ years and they have worked great. We put them in storage for 3 years while we traveled and have now bought a house and are moving in. Dryer is working fine but having problems with the washer. It will fill with water, I hear a hum, and the knob will move around the cycle and then reaches the end. Water does not drain but I can drain it manually by lowering the drain hose. The agitator TOP will rotate clockwise but not counter clockwise. The lower agitator will turn with difficulty a little in each direction but I have to do it manually. It will not spin. Have tried "scrubbing" the knob around (timer?) - no change, took cabinet off (after watching one of your videos:) ) and checked the motor coupler and all is good there. The motor shaft turns freely and so does the transmission shaft. Took top off of agitator and was about to try and take it out but thought I would check with you guys. I also wondered about taking the two tubs apart to see if something was stuck between but don't know how. Any pointers, videos, and the order to check things would be gratefully received. Would like to check everything necessary while the cabinet is off so I don't have to take it off and on. Can I check the motor and transmission and the pump with the cabinet off, and how? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance

Double check the model number, doesn't come up. Drain pump may be jammed or faulty, unclip pump from motor and pull from motor shaft and then try spin mode. You can run washer with cabinet removed but you have to bypass the lid switch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAnQ6OvvnucIs the hum from the timer or the drive motor? Eric

Sorry Eric, I didn't proofread before posting! The correct model number is 110.82993300. Off to try your suggestion. Thanks for the link. Will let you know how it works out.

Okay Eric, here are the results. With the motor disconnected from the transmission the spindle turns easily by hand but when we connect the electric and set the cycle to spin it hums but does not want to turn. Hubby can turn it and get it started but it takes a while (90 plus seconds) before it gets up to speed. Tried it several times, and first time smelled hot wire. After the first time did not get the hot smell but the motor got VERY hot. Hubby thinks the motor is shot. Was fine when it went in storage and he thinks it when bad when we tried to wash clothes and it could not turn the shaft of the agitator. Have not tried connecting the motor to the transmission to see if it will turn anything. Hubby want to use this as an excuse to buy a new front loading set, but I don't. Saw that you have the motor in stock so trying to talk him into getting it. What else should we check so we can get all the parts at one time? Thanks so much for your help and for your site. It, and you guys, are fantastic.:)

Problem could be the motor, motor switch, start capacitor or timer. Need to check the voltage at the blue wire on the motor connector when motor is running. Should be around 120vac. The motor switch is the part on the motor that the wiring harness plugs into. You can take the screw out, pull the switch away from the motor and remove the cover of the switch to examine the internal contacts. Operate the actuating lever by hand to operate the switches. Capacitor is located inside control panel. Also check the connections at the motor thermal overload switch. The white wire from the motor receptacle goes to this device (integral part of the motor). Check for corrosion/burning/melting at the terminals on that switch.

Hubby has decided this is getting too much for him and so he wants to buy a new washer. I am going to give this to someone who can fix it along with this website and links as I think it is fantastic. Already referred friends to it to check for repairs on their stuff. Thanks again for all of your help. I know we could have fixed it but not my choice.
