When I push the Ice dispensor I have to manually pull it back out. And then open the door and push the ice dispensor again to get the rest of the ice out. Ice is stuck between the door seal and the ice try.

Recently purchased a home with Frigidaire gallery series refrigerator. Around where the ice and water dispensor is located is rusted(at the bottom of the dispensor). I took the ice and water dispensor apart today. The pin hinge for the ice actuator was not fully through the module dispensor, corrected that. The ice asctuator still did not close quickly. I removed the damper rotary and the ice actuator closed quicker.

Question #1. The damper rotary slowed the closing of the ice actuator. What is the dampr rotary's function? Should it assist to return the ice actuary to closed? Do I need to replace it?

Question #2. Ice is still getting trapped between the door seal and the ice try. Any sugestions on how to fix this.

I figure the rust is from the ice getting trapped and melting.

With regards to question #1. The damper function to slow the closing of the door. This is because, if the door closed too quickly, some ice could get stuck behind the flap before it was able to be dispensed. This section is not kept frozen, so the ice would melt causing it to leak out. Therefore, the damper prevents the flap from closing too quickly so that when you stop pressing the actuator, even though the auger will not be pushing out more ice, the ice that has already been pushed out will have a chance to fall out.

Thank you bfridge on the reply. I thought the damper was slowing it down too much but i guess that is its job. :)
