The tough scrub plus light was on this morning after we ran the dishwasher last night. Not blinking -- just constant. I ran the diagnostic cycle and it finished with tough scrub plus light on again. I checked the disposal and drain tube are clear. Any idea what is the problem?

Try removing power from the unit for a few minutes to see if it will reset.

Since you were able to run the diagnostics I assume you have the tech sheet.

Could be that the tough scrub key is always closed.
You will have to check this with a meter (see the tech sheet).
If it is OK then odds are that the control board is toast.
Still a bit of a crap shoot but the odds of replacing the problem part the first time are better.

Thanks for the reply.

After cutting off the power at the circuit breaker, I tried running the dishwasher again, and this time it stopped with the tough scrub plus light blinking and water not drained. So I am thinking it may be the pump rather than the control board. I tested the pump with a multimeter, and I get 23 ohms. Does anyone know what the resistance should be for a functioning pump?

The drain pump is not the problem after all. I was reading the tech sheet procedure to distinguish between a "touchpad" and "control" problem. Now I am wondering -- does "touchpad" mean control pad? And does "control" mean control board. I am trying to figure out what is the right replacement part.

Depends on the rest of the sentence.

The keypad can also be called the touchpad, often they call it the control panel

The control board can be called control or EOC.

Thanks denman. I replaced the control panel and now seems to be running okay. Unfortunately, I think I did not do a good job of replacing the drain pump. There is a slow leak when the machine starts, and then if I press cancel to drain I get a big leak.

Some questions:
Since it leaks from the start, is the leak coming from another place in addition to the drain pump?

When you insert the drain pump and turn clockwise, should I hear a snap to indicate it has locked in place?

Also, i inadvertently removed one of the sump retaining clips. I pushed it back it as much as I could, but am wondering do you need to use a lot of force to get it sealed tight again?

I cannot say.
A mirror and a flashlight come in handy when trying to find a leaks source.
The ideal mirror is a mechanics mirror. It is like a dentist's mirror just larger.
In a pinch a small mirror taped at an angle to a dowel etc. works.
I have used my wife's old compact.

Not sure.
One thing I always do when working with seals etc., is to give then a light coating of lithium grease. This reduces the chances of them grabbing and twisting etc.

It should not take excessive force.
