I've a Whirlpool washing machine that doesn't seem to work in 'light' cycle. If I set it to Super or Regular/Normal it'll fill, fast agitate, and, once it advances to light begin to slow/low agitate. If, however, you turn the dial and start the machine at light it won't do anything and will just sit there. It seems as the light cycle will only work when it starts as a result of another cycle ending, if that makes any sense...

I replaced the timer but am still having this same issue. I thought it may be a low speed winding on the motor but the face that it'll work fine after coming off of the normal and super cycles tells me the motor windings are fine.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue and find the problem?

Cleaned the contacts of the motor switch and the problem still persists. We did notice that if we set the machine to 'light' and pull the knob the machine will sit there for a couple minutes before starting up. So I guess at this point all cycles do work, just if you advance the timer to a point mid cycle the machine will get hung up for a few minutes before knowing what to do and starting.

If we set the machine to Regular/9 it'll fill, high agitate and drop down to low agitate when it hits Light/6. If we stop the machine there, make a full 360 turn of the timer and start it back up again at the exact spot it was stopped the machine will just sit there (noise coming from timer) for a few minutes before the light cycle begins.

Id be inclined to think this is a timer issue but we've replaced the timer and are still having the same issue.

Well until I got to your second paragraph I was going to say replace the timer.

There doesn't seem to be anything mechanically wrong with the machine as it will do the light cycle when starting from another cycle.

So the answer to your problem is, I don't know. Sorry, wish I could be more helpful and maybe another expert who responds to post here can help you.
