I have checked the forum but cant find an answer. This ovens bake and broil elements are on full heat and wont turn off. I have to shut off the breaker. The oven control board 12001607, was blank so i sent it to corecentric to be repaired. Even with the OCB is removed the elements are on full when breaker's on. I replaced OCB and still the elements are on full when powered and the oven off sw. doesnt stop the heating. Could the repair be bad of the OCB? are the relays on the relay board 74001870(one bake and one broil) normally open or normally closed ie does the OCB open the relays to shut off the oven(NC) or are they supposed to be open (NO) and the OCB closes the relays to turn on the oven? how do you test the relays with a multimeter? thankyou:confused:

I cannot find any tech info on the given model number.
The Sears parts site does have part breakdown diagrams and it looks like this unit uses a control board and a relay board.
I am assuming that OCB stands for Oven Control Board.

This would point to a problem with the relay board.

I cannot say but I would replace the relay board first.

The relays are normally open.
The control board energizes the relay to close it contacts and turn the element on.
how do you test the relays with a multimeter?
You really do not have to check them.
All you could check is if the relay contacts are always closed (welded together).
This could be done by unplugging the unit and then checking across the contacts. Since I do not have a wiring diagram I cannot give you test points.
This would be very unlikely as both relays would have to weld together at the same time.
I cannot say for sure what is going on.
The relay board also has a transformer on it.
I think this is probably to provide low voltage to the control board which is then turned into low DC voltage on the board and that runs the electronics.
There may be a problem with the transformer.
This is why the control board is dead.
I cannot explain why this is also closing the element relays.
Hopefully the relay board has not blown the control board. |

Thankyou for the response, Knowing the relays are supposed to be N.O. is very helpful. I heard from corecentric today, they are sending a label because they reviewed the repair and saw they never replaced the relays on the OCB which control the turning on and off of the other relays. Im also sending in the relay board because we both felt that since the problem persists when the OCB isnt installed, that the relays on the relay board are suspect.
In response, the OCB was only dead before it was repaired, it wasnt a trans. problem, and repaired it still wouldnt shut off the relays, which if they are N.O. then it couldnt do since it isnt closing the relays. Thanks for your help.
