Fridge has not been run for some time. Plugged in for a couple of days and freezer nice and cold but cold fridge warm. Took back panel off and fan is blowing when I switch fridge from off to on. Do not know if there should be a fan blowing in freezer or fridge compartment but can't feel any air movement. Any help would be appreciated. Ian Robertson

Your model number seems incomplete. Sears numbers are usually 3digits, a period and then an additional 8 digits.
I am not sure if this is a Canadian model. If it is info may not be available. The Canadian Sears parts site stinks. I know because I am also a canuck.

There will not be a separate fan in the fresh food section. The evaporator/freezer fan is what blows cold air into the fresh food section. On some units there is a thermostat controlled damper between the freezer and the fresh food which regulates the amount of cold air. If your unit has this then it could be the problem.
You looked at the evaporator/freezer coils, did they have a nice even coating of frost on them? If they were heavily iced/frosted over you may have a defrost problem which can prevent the fan from blowing cold air into the fresh food.
Knowing the freezer temperature could also be helpful. It should be between 0 and 5 degrees F. |

I verified that these are the correct serial and model numbers. We are in Canada so that may explain. There is not any frost on the coils at all. Freezer temp, feels cold, don't have thermometer but would estimate -5.

Nothing comes up using that model number so will have to try just general info.
Is the fan in the freezer running? You may have to manually close a freezer door switch if it has one. It should be on whenever the compressor is on.
A 970 is made by Frigidaire. Could you provide some info on the unit. Is it a top freezer, a side by side or a bottom freezer unit? Does is have separate freezer and fresh food controls and where are they located? Are the controls dial (knobs) or is it electronic? |
