What is the proper water level for this White-Westinghouse washer model wtf330hs0?

Just moved and my wife doesn't think the water level is as high as it used to be. There doesn't seem to be any extra free water left when she does a load of socks and underwear. Is this normal or could something have changed?

In addition to this problem the motor has started making some new whining noise. I took the belt off and spun the drum by hand to make sure the noise was actually coming from the motor.
The drum spins easy and is quiet.

Thanks

It is difficult to say with these front loaders, but if you want to you can replace the water level pressure switch. If you buy from this site and that does not make the situation satisfactory you can return it.
