Last night my Whirlpool Washer was filled with water in the load I was doing. I moved the knob to different cycles in all the settings, only to get a humming noise. After scooping out the water, it would work on the Rinse cycle, but not in the Spin cycle. I did not try and run the Rinse cycle because I was afraid it wouldn't drain.
My dryer, Whirlpool Model #: WED5500SQ0, also started to squeak last night.
Not sure if they can be fixed, or if it's time to throw in the towel since they are 12 years old?!

Can't be more than 8 years old as those models came out in 2006. They are well worth fixing as opposed to buying the junk they sell nowadays. There may be something in the pump jamming it. I would pull the pump from the motor and see if washer will then spin. If motor still just hums, pull motor and set it on floor with wires still attached and try in spin mode again. If it still won't start in spin mode you may have a faulty timer.
