Washer fills and agitates, gets to end of agitation phase, and stops, full of soapy water. Turning dial to other settings gets nothing going, except if I turn it back to the beginning, when it starts in like it's going to wash a load. No drain, no spin, no rinse. Problem with timer/controler? Thanks!!!

When washer stops after agitation cycle, if timer knob does not continue to advance either, then looks like a faulty lid switch.

Sweet! I'll check it out! Thanks for taking the time to reply, Eric! I wonder if this answer is obvious to other appliance repair gurus?

It should be. If not, they are not "gurus". This is a Whirlpool direct drive model, the most ubiquitous design on the market for the last 30 years. Lid switch failures are common and on your particular model, if the lid switch fails, the washer will still fill and agitate but will not drain or spin and timer will not continue to advance after agitation stops.
