I have a front load Kenmore washer, model 796.40318900. It has an intermittent power issue.

After running a load, the power will cut off and not turn back on. Nothing displays on the front panel at all.

There is power from the outlet
There is 120V coming into the noise filter
There is 120V coming out of the noise filter
There is NOT an LED lit on the main power board.

After checking around, plugging/unplugging it. The outlet will spark while trying to plug in the cord. After this spark the washer will work as normal for 1 cycle only. THen back to the same characteristics.

How do I know if the problem is with the Main PCB or the Display PCB?

Any ideas on this one? This is exactly what is happening with my Kenmore. Thanks for any comments.

For me it was the main circuit board. Bought on on amazon for $125 ish. Not a difficult switch out if u are handy. The electrical plugs need the tab pushed IN when disconnecting them.

Unfortunately, i guessed wring and started w changing the display board first. Nothing changed. Replacing both myself was still cheaper than a service call from a local shop.

Thanks Sean1981.
I was hoping for a code reset short cut as the install of the washer/dryer is stacked and in a tight space (read ... very difficult to move). Of course with the washer on the bottom! Not sure how to tackle this one :-(

I appreciate the response and all the best.

Regards,
Al
