ThermadorMovie

Thermador2Movie

Sometimes lights, sometimes doesn't. Always flickers even if burning steady for a few seconds. Sometimes will light steady then flicker at a slowing frequency until it almost stops, then lights steady again, the repeating same sequence.

Easy fix? Dumpster? I don't see how to open this thing up to work on it btw... Thanks for any ideas!

90 Views so far but it must be quite a mystery, no suggestions:) We're getting ready to sell our house after 17 years and I'd like the burners to all work for the buyer... Any ideas much appreciated - thanks!

Hello,
The noise you're hearing is the solenoid valve opening and closing, which is turning on and off the gas. Either this solenoid is going bad, or the control board which supplies the 110vdc to the solenoid is bad.

To check it, you'd have to lift the maintop, place your meter leads on the wires that are plugged into the solenoid, set the meter to volts DC, and turn on the burner. If there's a continuous power there, the solenoid's bad. If the power is flickering, the simmer control is bad.

To remove the maintop, you'll need to remove the burners, which require a 20mm socket. Remove the caps, remove the brass nuts, remove the burner basses, remove the knobs, lift the maintop enough to unclip the light, remove the maintop.

In the event that your brass tubes are frozen/stuck, don't force it, because you'll damage the gas tubing connected to the burner. If these are frozen, the tubes will need to be drilled out and replaced, along with the jet holder assemblies.

Hi, thanks so much for the detailed reply. Especially for answering the mystery of how to remove the top. Sounds like if I were really lucky it could be a corroded or loose/bad connection between the board and the solenoid, at least that's what I'll hope for:) Thanks again.
