This is a super capacity direct drive. The problem started with slipping clutch. Replaced that and set it up. The washer turned the drum well, but when I lifted the lid (to make sure all the brakes were working and the spinning would stop), the motor hummed like it was trying to drive against the brake. Closing the lid, everything seems to work. I have the full cover off and the motor out on the floor. The switch is completely disconnected. When I pull the start knob out, the motor starts humming and the shaft moves like it's trying to start. The motor starts to get warm quickly. Kind of feels like voltage on one leg only or something --- does this indicate the control box circuit is faulty?

Found the problem when going to check the resistance between the windings and the case ... one of the blade terminals got bent over and was touching the next one ... don't know how I managed to bend a terminal over but it's straight now and problem solved.
