Washing some clothes last week & the washer just stop during Wash cycle - so I advanced dial to force a drain & see if I could get it to spin, but seem locked up - could hear motor act like it was trying to spin but wouldn't. I could spin Basket by hand counter clockwise ok - but could barely spin in clockwise. The load before this was extremely noisey, as in I heard some clunking coming from washer. So using this site https://www.repairave.com/washerrepair_wpl_trblguide.asp - I started testing various parts Motor - Test Good. Start Switch - Tested Good. Coupler- not broke & look ok- Esp for 1989 Model washer. Clutch - looked ok - Took it out & nothing broke, the pads are about 1/8" thick. Brakes - looked ok - parts seem to move correctly - got about 1/8" pad on both shoes - When working the brake cam - one way it pulls the shoes away & it spins easily - the other way its hard to make it spin. Transmission - after I took it out & while spinning the input shaft - the spline shaft did not spin in either direction nor did the clutch. So I took the cover off & the watch the gears inside. I spun the input shaft & now sometime the clutch or spline'd shaft would spin - I could hold them from spinning with my hand though. It didn't matter what direction - so I put cover back on & when spinning input shaft - neither shaft or clutch assembly moves. Is this transmission done for. Or What else could it be. Fred
