So we recently bought a slightly used washer and dryer set from an appliance repair/resale shop. Both are a matching set and are less than 5 yeas old (or so we were told). Well we hooked everything up and tested the dryer and it seemed to work okay at first. But I went back down after the first load had finished and noticed that the clothes were totally cold and just slightly damp. Well from then on, I could never get the dryer to heat up consistently (it's gas). Like, once every 5 tries, it would heat up. I called the owner of the shop out and he took a look, of course it works when he's there. He thought it was a gas supply problem, as he said he replaced the coils and valves and igniters already with brand new parts.
I also went through and cleaned out the vent leading to the outside, which didn't really have much lint in it anyways. I then disconnected the gas line from the dryer as well as the gas pipe from the ceiling, opened the gas valve a little bit, heard no gas and smelled no gas. So I called a plumber.
The plumber came out, took a look and discovered that the adapter to the gas pipe was completely wrong, blocking most if not all gas flow. We ended up replacing the t-pipe section that the adapter connected to and put the proper adapter in. The gas flow is now working properly.
Well I figured that all must be solved, so I threw a load in the washer and then put it in the dryer. I started it up and the dryer flame lit and started to get warm so I went up stairs. Well I noticed the the dryer was still running at least an hour and a half later if not more (I put it on the auto-moisture setting). I went down to check and the clothes were still damp and cold. I watched and the flame was not igniting anymore. I shut it off, disconnected the gas line again and tested it and the gas is flowing so now I know there's something wrong with the dryer.
When I watch the little hole in the front, the coil things light up bright for several seconds but I'm not seeing any flame at all now. They just get bright and then go dark again. They will continue this cycle for as long as the dryer is running. I also tried putting it on a simple timer setting and received the same results. I disconnected the vent tube from the back to check air flow and the air flow is strong. The dryer did not flame even when the exhaust vent was disconnected and the dryer was venting right into the basement. I also tried different timer, heat and moisture settings on the dryer to no avail.
What does it sound like the problem could be? Coils, valves, solanoids? I am only marginally experienced with this stuff so I could use the help lol.

Sounds like igniter is cycling on/off correctly so problem would seem to be the gas valve coils but they were supposedly replaced. We would need the dryer model number to advise on part numbers for the coils.

Thanks for all your help. That was it! Replacing the gas valve coils fixed the problem. I now have a working dryer. You guys were far more helpful then the dead beat appliance resale guy I bought it from. And the repair was EASY! Just watched a youtube video on how to do it. Took me 30 minutes tops. Saved me a couple hundred dollars in repairs.
Thanks again!
