Thanks Dick - I'll go ahead and replace the clutch pulley for now to get us going and get some if these clothes washed. I'll look into the tub seal and see if we can have some down time (I assume it will take a bit, at least for me).

Great pics. When I said the clutch looked good at first, if I only know what it was suppose to look like, I would have said something different!

OK Dick, I got the clutch today and attempted to put it on. I finally got it on and tried to do a spin test

On my first attempt, it kept making sounds and then the belt came off.

I took the clutch off and put it back on. Tried another spin test, this time it made some clicking sounds when the motor turned the pulley then started to spin up, the clutch spun off on the way up.

I put the clutch back on making sure it was snugly on, and on the third spin test, it did spin up to speed (still was making some sounds though), and then on the way down the clutch flew off again.

I could keep putting the clutch back on, but I would probably get the same results, is there anything I should be looking for when putting the clutch back on? The directions I got just said to put in on and tighten the bolt to 96lbs!

Also, I took the upper bearing off the pulley and put it on the shaft and was not able to turn it in either direction, is that the way it's supposed to be?

Greg,

It is a bit tricky to get that Upper One-Waybearing ring and the clutch Pulley seated correctly. Do you have the FAVA6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual?

If not Google ""16022808 Rev. 0"" and you will find.

If you have the SM look at page 47 left bottom of the page.

From the SM;
NOTE: When reinstalling, properly seat Pulley with a
1/16-1/8" gap between the Pulley face and shaft
end.


That Clutch Pulley will spin off every time and make the internal noises until you have it properly seated on the Spinner Shaft. It would be easier if you lay the machine on its back properly as described in this thread;

Goto the page date stamped 12-28-2009, 10:21 PM and follow those directions.

96inch pounds for the 3/8" Clutch Pulley bolt. Over torque and you will sheer that bolt off.

After spending a lot of time on putting the pulley back on, I was able to complete a quick spin test. Then I sent it through a quick wash, all seemed fine at that time! Yea, clean clothes for the weekend.

If anyone gets a new Clutch Pulley, they should go from the instructions in the SM not what comes with the part, even the OEM one like I got. Thanks for your help; it would have been tough, if not impossible to do without your help.

I would watch after several weeks that wash water has not contaminated the One-Way bearing in the Clutch Pulley Hub and that Upper Bearing ring.

You may want to drop the Clutch Pulley assembly out and clean up with WD-40 and relube with WD-40.

Fix is to replace the Tub Seal and bearings if required......your machine will let you know when you need to rebuild the Outer Tub. The bearing noise in Spin Cycle will build like a freight train running through the house.

Hi Dick, if you see this, I am needing more of your help! Should I add to this old post, or create a new one?

After replacing the washer clutch pulley, the machine has worked for 3 months without problems, now it just started to become unbalanced trying to go into the spin cycle (dc error). On one of your posts, you point to the clutch being the problem. Can this be true even though I just replaced it?

What it is doing is that it will go through the wash and rinse cycles fine, but when it comes to the spin cycle, it will try to start a few times, then becomes unbalanced. I was able to get through a complete cycle with a empty wash, but either a small load or a large load gives the dc error.

Is this a bad clutch or could it be something else? I can do the finger test - should I remove the clutch and re-install it?

If your machine is throwing DC or UC unbalance errors I suspect the Clutch Pulley one-way bearing. I suspect that one bearing may be slipping and not locking up in spin cycle. When the Clutch Pulley one-way bearing slips at the start of a spin cycle this will cause wash basket tumbler movement causing the wash basket load to shift.

Does your current Clutch Pulley us the One-Way Upper Bearing ring.

When you drop out the Clutch Pulley inspect that One-Way bearing for rust/crude in the Clutch Pulley hub. I suspect rust from a Tub Seal leak.......only cure for that is a Outer Tub rebuild.

I got as far as trying to remove the six bolts holding the main tub bearing. No luck. Any suggestion?
