Dryer was working fine but then it never shut off- ran for hours. The timer seemed to be stuck at wrinkle free. I opened it and it shut off. I tried to restart it and nothing... the timer is not even ticking/ counting down which it usually does befor pushing start ... nothing? any clues???

If it won't start and if you place timer in timed dry and timer doesn't run then you have a bad timer, assuming you do have 240vac coming into dryer. Unplug dryer and check that you have 240vac at receptacle. Open small panel on rear at top to inspect the power cord connection block. Make sure connections are tight and clean, no burning or melting. Whirlpool 3979617 Timer - AppliancePartsPros.comEric
