I have a Series 11 Maytag Neptune FAV6800AWW that is having a problem finishing any cycle. It seems to stop on the spin cycle. Very similar to http://forum.appliancepartspros...ning-after-starting.html.

I also have followed the thread FIXED Maytag Neptune, Timer Problem which also is similar to this problem - I completed all Dicks test, but it failed the finger test and the Quick Service Cycle. Both these threads are answered by Dick "dh1200s"

The wash would not finish and the clothes in the washer were still in water

1. In the Off mode, with no lights on at all, I entered SM, display read “00”.
2. Tried a Quick Spin Test and only got to 48 RPM, then it went down to 0 then backup to 48 - it would keep doing this over and over
3. Pressed Dedicates, “ot” displayed
4. Pressed Presoak, and draining occurred
5. Pressed Presoak a second time, draining stopped

Now, I wanted to perform a “Quick Service Cycle” test, but it would not finish, it tried to spin and could only muster 48 RPM and then would stop and try again, this would happen over and over. So I manually stopped the test.

I was not able to spin the tub with one finger in the CCW direction, but when I took the front panel off, I was able to freely move the motor belt attached to the motor. The belt would move, but the tub still wasn't moving. I was going to clean up the clutch and bearings, but since the belt moved freely, could it still be the clutch? Is there another thing to look for before I start taking things apart?

So you can rotate the Clutch Pulley in both directions or only one direction?

When the machine is in the Wash Cycle the motor is rotating the Clutch Pulley in the CW direction spinning the tumblers in the Wash Basket. If you rotate the Clutch Pulley by hand in the CW direction and you have someone look into the wash basket you should see the tumblers rotating slowly.

In the Spin Cycle the Motor reverses and rotates the Clutch Pulley in the CCW direction the Spin Direction. This will spin the Wash Basket in the CCW Spin Direction. Can you rotate the Clutch Pulley in both directions?

So the quick test is can you spin the Clutch Pulley in both directions?

If you can't rotate the Clutch Pulley in the CCW direction then I feel your machine series uses the Upper One-Way Bearing ring and that bearing ring is seized and or the Outer Tub bearings are seized.

I would drop out the Clutch Pulley and inspect and verify if your series 11 machine uses the Upper One-Way bearing ring as the start point for troubleshooting your issue. Once the Clutch Pulley is removed with the Upper One-Way bearing if used removed verify that you can rotate the Wash Basket in both directions in the Outer Tub bearings

In the thread http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/65487-maytag-neptune-load-unbalance.html Look at the second and third pic dated 12-28-2009, 12:45 PM. Those Pic's shows the Upper One-Way bearing ring. If your machine does not use the Upper One-Way bearing ring above the Clutch Pulley then your machine uses the second generation Outer Tub design.

Lets hope your machine series uses the Upper One-Way bearing ring.

Regardless once you remover the Clutch Pulley see if the wash basket will rotate in both directions.

Standing by for your feedback.

The clutch has the Upper One-Way bearing ring. I removed the clutch earlier, at first it looked good, but I was not able to rotate the upper bearing. The spring inside look OK. I soaked the clutch with WD40 and the top piece came loose. I put the clutch back on thinking it may have something to do with it, but it was acting the same way - the spin test only went to 48 RPM. I didn't test the tub to see if it could turn with the clutch off, I'll do that next. I was able to manually rotate the clutch pulley in the CCW direction, and with a little force (not much) I was able to rotate it in the CW direction. I tested the tumblers and they are rotating at the same pace, but the tub does not rotate, in the quick test that is. I'll get back to you about the tub rotating with the clutch off.

Hi Dick - I took the clutch off again, and I was able to turn the tub. Boy it's a bitch getting the clutch on, taking if off is simple, so I have left it off at this time

I better say that when I had the clutch pulley off, I got the upper clutch roller bearing off and it could rotate, but was not able to budge the clutch hub roller bearing, if it is suppose to move. I don't have one to compare it to, but it looks like it should move

Yep Greg not much room to get that 3/8" socket on the Clutch Pulley nut.

If I did have my bike lift I would lay the machine on it's back following the guide line I mention in this post; http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/65487-maytag-neptune-load-unbalance.html

Wash water has contaminated those bearings. A new clutch Pulley may get you back in service if there are no other issues, no way to tell without replacing. The Item frozen/seized in the Clutch Pulley hub should come out as you view the third pic I pointed you to. I call that item the Spinner Shaft Coupler. That Coupler is seized in the Clutch Pulley hub One-Way bearing.

Many folks have had this happen. Long term fix is to replace the Tub Seal and Tranny Oring. I feel most issues are caused by the Tub Seal.

Both the One-Way bearing in the Clutch Pulley hub and the One-Way bearing pressed in the Upper Bearing ring are the same type bearing. They are pressed in to support the function of Spin Cycle and Wash Cycle. The One-Way bearing pressed into the Upper Bearing ring allows rotation in the Spin direction CCW Clutch Pulley rotation and it locks under rotational torque when the Clutch Pulley rotates CW the wash/agitate cycle. This prevents the wash basket from rotating CW during the wash/agitate cycle.

The One-Way bearing pressed in the Clutch pulley locks up in the Spin cycle/CCW Clutch Pulley rotation. Once the large wrap spring in the Clutch Pulley hub comes under tension the wash basket will start to rotate CCW spin direction.

Troubleshooting from here it sounded to me that One-Way bearing in the Upper One-Way bearing ring was seized also besides that Spinner Support Coupler seized in the Clutch Pulley hub.

So that's about all I can do from here.

Clutch Pulley has gone thru the roof over the years. My original replacement was around $56 delivered to the house.

If you decide to repair I'll be around if you have questions.

Dick

My clutch pulley unit looks different than the picture in that post, the upper bearing has the center post through it, and cannot be turned.

What items do you think will need to be replaced? You mentioned the Clutch Pulley and the Tub Seal. Are the other things you mention part of the Clutch Pulley unit? Do you happen to have those part numbers handy? I can look them up, but I'm lazy.

I plan on doing the replacement, unless it is more than just the clutch, so I do appreciate you saying you'll be around for questions

I mean that it only looks different because the post in the upper bearing roller has the shaft in it and can't be turned or pulled out. I thought it was suppose to be that way until I saw the photo

Is this the part your thinking - Whirlpool 12002211 Pulley & Clutch Assy - AppliancePartsPros.com Clutch Pulley #1200211 / AP4009131

And this is the Tub seal? Whirlpool 25001090 Tub Seal - AppliancePartsPros.com

That center post item from what you describe is what I call the Spinner Shaft Coupler..........see pics if it's seized in that Upper One-Way bearing this is why you can't rotate the wash basket by hand in the CCW Spin direction.

You have the correct Part Numbers why the two different P/N's for the Clutch Pulley assembly for FAV6800A and FAV9800A machines is a mystery to me.

Replacing the Clutch Pulley Assembly is the easy part of this repair the Long Term Fix is a Outer Tub Rebuild rebuild please read through this post. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/167669-fav6800a-fav9800a-outer-tub-bearing-replacement.html

You may be able to remove the inner tub as a complete assembly from the Outer Tub to replace the Tub Seal that was discussed in the last several post.

I and the first two forum members in that thread rebuilt the Outer Tub of our machines, some owners were successful others were not. Take the time to read through the post to provide insight before you do a parts buy.

As I mentioned earlier you could slap in the new Clutch Pulley Assembly and if no other issues are present other then wash water working it's way to the Clutch Pulley and Outer Tub bearings you could get back in service. Wash water will leaks will need to be addressed if you keep the machine...........Dick
