I have Whirlpool fridge that makes loud noise when it shuts off from cooling cycle. I can hear the motor stop and then there is a sound like when your trying to start a chainsaw buy slightly louder, like thump, thump, thump, thump. It is quiet, looks and works OK otherwise. You would never guess it was made in '92!
Whirlpool - Model No. ET14JKXXW00 S/N: EB0610261 Type: 14ATR92
:) Thank you!!

Confirm that the noise is coming from the compressor. Since it is thumping you will probably be able to feel the compressor vibrate. Check that the compressor mounts are OK. If all OK then odds are that your compressor is on it's last legs as it has internal mechanical problems. See 24 in the following link. http://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator-repair-help.phpI cannot say how long it will last but it is unreliable and will probably only fail when you are away and the unit is full to the brim with expensive items. |
