Hi everyone. I have a Frigidaire drier that has accumulated some residue on the heating duct. I'm not sure what it's from, but it's a really sticky substance that sometimes will catch dryer sheets and it occasionally finds its way onto clothes which creates a sticky mess.

Has anyone encountered this problem? I was going to just buy a new duct, but realized this part is over $100 and part of a larger assembly. Any cleaning recommendations would be great.

The first time I noticed it was from a dryer sheet getting stuck on the duct. We have not had any damaged clothing, but sometimes the residue will get onto clothing or cause smaller items like a sock to stick.

I have been looking into alternatives to the dryer sheets, but any idea how to get the residue off? I was thinking of getting the dryer hot and using a wire brush.

Had the same problem with mine, went ahead and replaced the vent! Upon replacing I noticed the old one was a solid vent or intake, the replacement has vent holes on the back to let more fresh air into the intake, they might have fixed the problem! One can only hope! We shall see!! Did not notice the problem with burning, until we converted to propane, but the scorched vent was there with natural gas, way worse with propane! Our dryer is 4 years old, this was done in-conjunction with motor being replaced!

After searching for solutions on-line and trying a number of variations the solution is so simple.

First off, I tried cleaning the grate and it would work for a short time but come back.

I also tried eliminating the fabric softener dryer sheets. Didn't work.

Finally, I took a good look at the dryer screen. I had previously done this, but what I didn't notice the first time was that it looked clean but was plugged with very fine residue - not lint, more of a paste. The screen is very fine. When I tried to blow through it I could not. At least 50% of the screen was clogged. I cleaned it really well with soap and water. After doing this I have not had an issue for over a year (with periodic cleaning). The clogged screen caused the grate to overheat because there was not enough air flow.

Wish I would have though about it sooner. My old dryer had a much coarser screen so it didn't clog like this one. And we didn't have the problem until this dryer was almost 2 years old - enough time for the screen to become clogged.
