20" gas amana range, purchased new in 2011.

Tenant complains that the broiler will suddenly turn on by itself without any input. ??

About a month ago I posted the same problem with the same model stove and have heard nothing from the experts here.

Misery loves company.

haha, well thanks for the company.

I ordered a new thermostat based on some other googling so I will let you know if that seems to fix the problem

Thermostat, eh?

Yes, please keep me posted on your results. If it can keep that damn phantom from turning on the oven/broiler burner at all hours of the night, I'll be in your debt.

Not having heard on the success/failure of replacing the thermostat, I decided to order one anyhow but got this reply from the vendor:

This email is to let you know that part AP5804562 (KIT, THERMOSTAT EG5 - CELAYA) is currently on national vendor back order. At this time, the manufacturer is not able to supply an estimated time of arrival for when we can expect the part to be received at our warehouse.

So, as a temporary fix, I put a switch in-line with the gas range's electrical connection and keep it turned off when the spark for the burners or glow for the oven aren't needed.

i didn't forget about you.... i just didn't get the backordered part until now. anyway, I installed in last week (it was a different thermostat as you had to actually file out a portion of the mounting bracket hole for it to fit.... the instructions that came with it explained this). anyway, it has been in for a little over a week and I haven't heard of any complaints from our tenant that it is turning itself on again... so hopefully this did it!

Thanks for getting back to me.

I went ahead and ordered the thermostat before hearing back from you and had the exact same experience as you, with it being back-ordered and needing a file to make it fit.

So far so good...no unexpected ignitions. The new thermostat is beefier than the old one, so I'm hoping it'll last longer.
