Due to the bitter cold in our area and the basement not being heated (landlord issue), my washer has been having some problems. When it's in the teens or lower, the washer won't fill with water because of frozen hoses. We just went through a cold spell last week and since today was warmer, I thought I would try to use the machine. At first it wouldn't do anything, but eventually water trickled out and then came out full force and filled the washer. Luckily I didn't put clothes in the washer. When it finished filling up, it made a faint hum like it was going to move into the washing cycle, but then after about 15 seconds it clicked and stopped making the hum and nothing happened. I tried moving it to different cycles and the same thing happened. I also could not get the water to drain. I finally scooped all the water out by hand because I'm not sure when I can get it fixed if it is, in fact, broken. Is the cold weather affecting my washer or is it something else? Thanks so much for any help.

I will try again tomorrow and see if it works. Next week it's supposed to get cold again. If the drain pump and hoses are frozen, is there any way I can prevent this from happening in the future? I have no control over the basement being heated, unfortunately. Thanks for your input.
