My wife and I got home one day last week and our fridge that's in the garage had a puddle of water in front of it. We opened it up and found most things in the freezer starting to thaw and all my beer getting warm...not good! So we took everything to our fridge inside. The garage fridge was still running but it wasn't cool. I unplugged it, plugged it back in about a minute later...I went back outside to check it in a few hours and it was cold again...even had ice in the bottom where some water was before.
About two days after that, we came home again to the water puddle outside the fridge like before. I unplugged it, plugged it back in but this time it never got cold again. It still runs and blows air but it's not cold. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

Here are you parts Appliance Parts - AppliancePartsPros.comAs with all outside units what is the ambient temperature in the garage. If it is below or close to freezing then that may be the problem. What exactly is running: The evaporator/ freezer fan? The condenser/compressor fan? The compressor? You can usually hear it but should also be able to feel it vibrating. If the compressor and fans are running then it is probably either a sealed system problem or a defrost problem. Remove the cover at the back of the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils. |

I've take off the back cover now. about 5 seconds after I plug it in I hear a click like something is supposed to turn on. Could it be the starter device that is attached to the compressor?

Yes it could. I am assuming that the condenser/compressor fan is running. Below is a good site with info on how to check a compressor etc. How To Fix a Refrigerator - Appliance Repair Guide - ACME HOW TO.comFYI: The compressor winding check is not a definitive test. In other words it can tell you if the compressor is bad but does not tell you that it is good. It may have winding to winding shorts or internal mechanical problems. Same goes for the capacitor. There is no good way to check the st.arter |
