Hi, My washing machine has been snagging clothes and some of them are getting ripped. After washing, at least one item will be wrapped around the agitator a number of times. I thought maybe there was a rough area that might be catching the clothes, but I don't see or feel anything like that. While I was inspecting it, I did notice that I can pull the agitator up about 1/2 inch off of the agitator base. I'm thinking this gap is what might be snagging the clothes. In searching the internet, I saw something that referenced a spline assembly (between the agitator and the base) that could go bad. Does this sound like the spline assembly needs to be replaced? Or the agitator? I will go check to see if the agitator spins while it is on spin cycle and post an update. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the reply Denman. I checked it out and it is actually very tight. So tight that I can't loosen it. I tested it, and the agitator is spinning while a load is washing. I noticed that the agitator does spin freely by hand when the machine is empty and not running. Is that normal? My gut tells me I need to replace the agitator...
