Wash machine just starting making a clunking noise during the wash/agitation cycle. It sounds like metal gears knocking. I took the machine a part and it appears the Drive Pulley does not fit snugly into the gears of the Mode Shaft. Is that normal? The sound appears to be the Drive Pulley and Mode Shaft gears knocking each time it changes directions. I don't know what the Drive Pulley looks like new, but it does not appear cracked or damaged. Is this a Drive Pulley problem, Mode Shaft, or something different? Thanks.

Is the basket rotating back and forth with the agitator? If so, the mode shifter is likely bad. The number you gave is not the correct model number.

My apologies. The model number is WCSR4170G3WW
I'm not certain, but I believe the basket was rotating during agitation. I'll have to put it back together and check again.
