Hello,
I have a Maytag Bravos 300 (top loading washer). It came up with F51 error code. The basket catches when turns. I dissembled it and there is nothing stuck inside. I tried to spin the shaft and it catches when the motor cover is installed. When the motor cover is off, it spins freely. Any suggestions?
Thank you, Mike

That is not a motor cover, that is the motor rotor and is half of the motor. Check it for cracks. Also check the stator for cracks. Check that the RPS is not loose and that the wire connector to it is fully seated. F51 indicates a problem with the RPS (rotor position sensor). Look for something that the rotor may be catching on when it rotates.

Thank you for your response.
I do not see any cracks on any parts of the motor. The strange part that it rotates freely about 360 degrees and catches afterwards. Then I can rotate it again from the same spot for 360 degrees.
I have removed and reinstalled stator and RPS but it made no difference.
Since it it gets stuck when rotated by hand, can I assume that RPS is not a problem?

There may be nothing wrong with the RPS itself. If the tub is getting stopped, then the RPS is going to sense that it isn't rotating and then you will get the error. Other possibility is a bearing problem. It may not show up with rotor removed as weight on shaft is reduced with it removed. I think you need to call a tech on this one or maybe someone else here has more to offer. This is actually a Fisher & Paykel design washer and this smart drive design is not one that I have a lot of service experience on. I know that there have been a lot of problems with bearings on these models but yours isn't that old so I don't know.
