Whirpool top loader #WTW57ESVWO mainly used by me a couple of times a week. When I pull selection control knob out to start filling with water for a regular wash agitator starts turning immediately and then a moment later you can hear the tub start filling with water because there is actually no water in the tub yet. And agitator still continues to turn while tub is filling.

Before this all started the tub would normally start filling with water 1st and then agitator would come on shortly after filling to go through its regular cycle. At the end of the wash cycle now the clothes are still damp. I have played with the knob to get the damp clothes into a spin cycle and get the rest of the water out of them so I can at least put them in the dryer. Obviously something is no longer working the cycles correctly.

Is this an easy fix for me if someone on here knows what the problem is. I paid $400 for machine back in 2009 so having to pay a couple of hundred to fix it now I might as well buy a new one. But if its just a part I can replace then its worth rolling the dice. Any thoughts?

Open the control panel by inserting putty knife under front of each end cap to release the clips. Rotate panel back. Unplug hose from fabric softener switch and blow through hose to make sure it's clear. Re-attach hose and try a cycle. If it still does the same thing, you need to replace the switch. This is a high failure item on these washers.

I blew through the hose and it seems to have fixed the problem. Is this an early indication that this switch is going bad or did the system just have a burp and it might be fine for a while. Also what did blowing through the hose do? Thanks

Can't say how long the fix will last. By blowing through the hose, you have cleared any obstructions in the hose and air dome. The air dome on the tub and hose at the air dome connection can get gunked up and cause improper air pressure to the switch. You could remove the cabinet to gain access to do a better clearing job but gunk buildup is not too much of a problem on these washer as compared to GE models. The switch is actually known as a load sense switch. It has a microprocessor controlled circuit board and measures the flow of water into the tub as well as measuring the water level with a sensitive pressure sensor. The hose connects directly to that sensor. These load sense switches have been a big problem. If you end up having to replace it, I would complain to Whirlpool as you might get a new one for free or at a reduced price. There was a lawsuit against Whirlpool because of this problem but I don't know what ever happened with that.

1.) The Fabric Softener switch that has the clear hose I took off and blew out is the switch you are talking about that goes bad? The Fabric Softener switch I am showing in this picture? 2.) I know Whirpool is a big Company. Do you know the division I would write to?

Yes, that is the switch. I have no idea about a number to call, you will have to do a little research.
