This washer was just diagnosed by a GE repairman. Rear Tub Bearin going bad. Part # WH45X1007. His estimate $500 +. My Question is the following. Where can I get instructions to replace this myself? On a scale 1-10 how hard is this? I am some what mechanical and have plenty of tools.

Have you recieved any or found any instructions? I don't have the same machine but the same problem and I'm looking for replacement instructions.

I do not have any instructions but I am trying to do it myself. I called GE Customer Care 800-386-1215 and they sent me the bearing at no charge. I have the rear and front off of the machine and it does not look that complicated.

Wow $500? You could by a new unit for that.

It would be great if you could take photos of the repair as you do it.
Then post them with some instructions too.

I have never worked on one of these units myself.

Good luck with the repair,

AJ

Justncase, how old is this washer? I can't even get the model number to come up. I did a back search from the rear tub bearing (not a complete number by the way) and I'm looking at GE washer models starting with WBVH62. I don't think you will find a lot of technicians with much experience on these machines. These models are either still under warranty or are just now beginning to come out of warranty. No manuals either. If GE sent you the part at no charge, that means that at the very least this washer still has part warranty. I would ask GE if labor is still covered.

Looking at the diagrams, this washer seems to be pretty close in design to Whirlpool Duet. Here is a Whirlpool Duet washer repair manual. It might come handy.

Scott, what's your washer model number? I'll see what I can do.
